1st Dartford Scout Group Remembers Alan Clark
14th November 2012

It is with deep sorrow that we learnt of the death a few weeks ago of Alan Clark, after a short illness, he was aged 83.
Alan will probably be best remembered in Dartford, for his outstanding work for Cancer Research, for which he was rightly honoured with an MBE.
But for members of 1st Dartford Scout Group he will always be remembered as the man who almost single handed raised the money required to rebuild our Scout Hall after the disastrous fire which destroyed the original wooden hut.
Like most volunteers, Alan became involved with the Group when his sons joined as Wolf Cubs nearly 40 years ago. Although he always resisted the pressure to go into uniform, he soon found his place on the Executive and Fundraising Committees where his organisational skills and “gift of the gab” flourished. No Group activity or fundraising event was complete without one of his infamous speeches.
I am pleased to say that the Group made a donation to Cancer Research, as Alan would have wished.
Alan is survived by his wife Joyce, three children and seven grandchildren.
