1st Dartford Cub Camp - Downe campsite
1st July 2011
1st Dartford Cubs and Leaders held their 2011 summer camp at Downe over the weekend of the 1-3rd July. The weather was fine and sunny for Akelas last camp. The cubs did not disappoint on friday night, last one to sleep at 1.15am and first one up at 4.10am. Not the same cub I am sure. The camp was awakened by the usual low tones of Akela growling 'get back in your tents it is not morning yet'
The cubs enjoyed an extra special day on Saturday with a visit from the Kent Scout Air Activity team who helped everyone make a rocket and then fly it. Later activities returned to traditional scouting with firelighting and cooking your own burger on the fire. Finally a campfire with the obligatory marshmallows.
Akela was joined on camp by the usual cub and beaver leaders but special thanks go to Ash and Pauline for coming along and making the camp special.
Sunday started with grass sledging and then prussicking. We then packed up and tried to reunite everyone with their belongings. Seems funny, in every tent there is always a pair of pants no one owns.
At flag break Akela was presented with a Downe mug and marshmallows as a little reminder from the cubs of a lovely last camp. Everyone went home tired but happy
